Ella T. Grasso, 1919-1981, was the "first woman in the nation to be elected governor in her own right," leading the state from 1974 to 1980, according to the CWHF website. She had previously served in the Connecticut General Assembly, Secretary of State and as a two-term U.S. Representative. She was inducted in 1994. In this photo, Grasso was at the State Capitol, about to take her oath has governor.
