<b>HOW IT GOT ITS NAME:</b> Stratford, settled in 1639, was named after the town in England, possibly by William Beardsley, a town founder who had lived in Stratford-upon-Avon during Shakespeare's lifetime.

<b>SIKORSKY:</b> Stratford is home to the headquarters of Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a United Technologies Corp. subsidiary founded in 1925 by Igor Sikorsky, developer of the first successful American helicopter. Sikorsky has supplied the presidential helicopter, Marine One, since the 1950s.
<br><br>
<b>FAMOUS RESIDENTS:</b> Notable residents past and present include musicians Javier Colon and Moby; the late actress Nancy Marchand of "Lou Grant" and "The Sopranos"; and ballroom dancer Tony Dovolani of "Dancing With the Stars." Author Stephen King spent part of his childhood in Stratford.
