Builders showcase their best design and handiwork in a model home. They try to include every option and every detail that a buyer might want. In addition to the dazzling array of amenities found at 1 Monticello Circle in Ellington, the house has another distinguishing feature – the builder, Santini Homes, has been constructing upscale houses in the area for decades.
“We design each home individually,” says Kevin Santini of Santini Homes. “Clearly, with a model, you think about every inch of the house. We wanted to create something different and the feedback has been fantastic.”
The model home for Santini’s Gasek Woods subdivision, 1 Monticello Circle, is a new listing represented by Berkshire Hathaway's Fine Homes division. Berkshire real estate agent Michelle Collins is excited about the opportunity to show the home. She believes it will not be on the market for long.
“This was a model home and the home has everything,” she says. “It has beautiful flooring, built-ins, top-of-the-line cabinetry, and a finished basement. It’s never been lived in.”
A graceful paver walkway leads to the main entrance of the 10-room home. The front porch has three walls of multi-colored stone veneer and bluestone flooring. Its natural beauty and strength is echoed throughout the home. Light brown stone frames the two porch windows and the double-door entryway. The home was built in 2008 and the flooring still looks tightly sealed like it was built yesterday.
“There are no surprises,” says Collins of the home’s construction. “It has already settled.”
Once you step inside, the two-story foyer offers a lot to take in at once. Straight, recessed columns topped with a tapered, layered capital are more ornate than the columns outside on the porch. Extra-large Andersen windows drench the foyer and the main staircase with sunlight. The staircase is flanked by wainscoting panels on one side and finely sculptured balusters and handrails on the other. From the second-floor landing, a curved balcony overlooks the foyer.
As you glance around the entryway, a collection of beautiful rooms beckons. It is hard to choose which direction to explore first. To the left, two columns designate the formal dining room and separate it from the foyer without using a wall or a door that would interfere with its inviting open space. An octagonal tray ceiling, raised panel wainscoting and inlaid hardwood flooring give it an elegant air.
Off the foyer to the right is the parlor, according to Santini. Custom built-ins painstakingly fit against an entire wall from floor to ceiling. It is a perfect spot for greeting guests while not interrupting other happenings around the house. “One of the main themes of the home is that we want the homeowner to feel comfortable in every room of the house,” says Santini.
The home’s hub, of course, is the kitchen which opens into a family room and an eat-in solarium. Santini sought to incorporate interaction and outdoor living in the home’s design and these rooms are the ultimate example. The solarium drops into a three-season room and then onto a rear deck.
With a no-holds-barred approach to outfitting, the kitchen boasts General Electric Profile appliances such as a double convection oven and a five-burner gas range. Honed granite countertops, Italian tile backsplash and raised paneled cherry cabinets make this heavily used area striking to view, while being durable and functional.
An elaborate, coffered ceiling is a distinctive element of the solarium, but the room feels more homey than formal. Two walls of windows create a warm and bright place to enjoy meals.
One of the home’s two wood-burning stone fireplaces is in the three-season room; the other is located on the finished lower level. A gas-burning fireplace is found in the family room and the master bedroom holds another.
Deliberately tucked away off the spacious mudroom is the most private room in the house: the office. Built-in cabinets and cherry flooring produce a warm and comfortable retreat.
Upstairs, four bedrooms and three full baths are neatly spaced. Double doors open into the master suite. Spacious and inviting, the heads of the household can enjoy their personal fireplace. A deeply recessed tray ceiling holds a ceiling fan. Two walk-in closets have custom-built shelving, drawers, shoe holders and more. The well-appointed bath features granite counters, a tiled shower, spacious tub and twin vanities.
Two bedrooms share a full bath in between. This bath also has two vanities very nicely done with marble tops.
The fourth bedroom has a private full bath making it a good room for an older child, an in-law or visitors.
An additional 1,300 square feet of finished space is found on the lower level. One space serves as a grade-school recreational area with an entire wall covered with blackboard.
Another area is for adults only. Here a wet bar can be stocked for any occasion. A number of people can sit at the bar while others play pool or relax on sofas surrounding the fireplace and television.
The home includes a sound system throughout, a sprinkler system, security system, central vacuum and central air.
“People gravitate to Ellington for the great schools,” says Collins. “It’s conveniently located to everything, and yet you feel you have privacy.”
The property is a short walk from the Ellington Ridge Country Club where a special social membership allows access to a swimming pool and tennis courts. Topstone Golf Course and Rolling Meadows Golf Course, both 18-hole championship public courses, are a five-minute drive away.
Even closer, a brand new YMCA provides health and fitness services, summer camps, child care and more. The Shoppes at Buckland Hills and The Shops at Evergreen Walk are only 10 minutes away and Hartford can be reached in 20. Six Flags New England can be reached in half an hour.
