UConn sophomore Breanna Stewart is one of four finalists for the 2014 Naismith Trophy, awarded to the nation's top college basketball player. Her nomination was announced Friday by the Atlanta Tipoff Club and fan voting component of the award's selection process will begin next week.
Stewart is joined by three seniors, Notre Dame's Kayla McBride, Stanford's Chiney Ogwumike and Baylor's Odyssey Sims.
The finalists were chosen by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's National Voting Academy. The award will be presented at the Final Four on April 7 in Nashville, Tenn.
For the 10th consecutive year, fans will have the opportunity to vote and help determine the Naismith winner.
From March 24-April 5 fans can vote through at http://www.NaismithVote.com. The fan vote represents 25 percent of the selection process.
Stewart, the 2013-14 American Athletic Conference player of the year and ESPNW player of the year, leads the top-ranked Huskies in scoring (19.7) and is second to Stefanie Dolson in rebounding (8.1).
Five Huskies have won the Naismith Trophy: Rebecca Lobo (1995), Sue Bird (2002), Diana Taurasi (2003), Maya Moore (2009 and 2011) and Tina Charles (2010).Copyright © 2015, CT Now
