Ichiban Asian Bistro
179 Linwood Ave, Colchester
At the suggestion of a friend we decided to head to Colchester and try Ichiban Asian Bistro, a restaurant that offers delicious, fresh Chinese and sushi options.
THE VIBE: The inside is modern and sleek. You would think you walked into a fancy schmancy restaurant with sky high prices, but cozy booths and tables makes you feel right at home and the vibe is totally family friendly.
THE FOOD: Can't decide between sushi or Chinese cuisine? Then Ichiban is the place to be. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. you can order off the lunch entree menu, with prices ranging from $6.50 to $7.95 (dinner prices are marked next to lunch prices so you can compare). The generously portioned dishes are served with fried rice and a spring roll (I substituted white rice on my dish). Entrees range from shrimp with broccoli, chicken with broccoli and sweet and sour chicken to general tso's or orange chicken and scallops with garlic sauce. We tried the chicken with broccoli, sweet and sour chicken and orange chicken. So good, we probably won't stray from these popular dishes next time we visit. As soon as we sat down to our table we were greeted with a fresh salad topped with ginger dressing.
For appetizers we ordered the crab rangoon (crab and cream cheese filled wontons fried until golden brown; $4.95 for 6); California roll (crab meat, avocado, cucumber; $4.50); and the steamed dumplings ($4.95). All satisfied our individual cravings.
THE BILL: The lunch entrees are truly a bargain (and the dinner prices aren't too shabby either). We spent under $45 for three of us, which included three lunch entrees, three appetizers and sodas.
THE DETAILS: Ichiban Asian Bistro is open Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Lunch is served 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Major credit cards are accepted. Easily accessible off of Route 2.
The Verdict: With so many menu options, we'll definitely go back for seconds. Worth the drive.Copyright © 2015, CT Now
