Story Lines Of The Season
Bloomfield started the season dealing with the graduation of one its best classes in program history and an injury to champion hurdler Izzy McEwen. It ended it once again as champions. With McEwen out for the season, high jumper Jermaine Lascelles stepped into the leadership role and helped the Warhawks beat Capital Prep-Hartford by 32 points for another Class S championship. It was Bloomfield's second straight championship.
Capital Prep put together one of its finest performances at the Class S meet, including a sweep of the 3,200 and capped off a remarkable four years for the program. The senior class, which includes Dhahran Velasquez, Kevin Rivera and Devin Nelson, helped take the program from nowhere to among the contenders.
It was a special year for Farmington's Matt Chisholm. The Yale-bound senior won the 1,600 meters at the State Open (4:23.63) and finished second in New Englands (4:18.17). He also got to run at a meet with his father Chris at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix this winter. According to meet officials, they were the first father-son pair to do the meet together.
Glastonbury sophomore Randy Neish improved his time in the 1,000 meters every race he ran and won the State Open title with a time of 2:30.79. He finished fourth in the 1,000 at New Englands in 2:27.71.
After failing to make the State Open and New Englands because of a lane violation last season, Windsor came back this season and won the 4x200-meter relay with a less-heralded group, including three underclassmen. It also won the 4x400-meter relay at the State Open (3:31.32).
Ellington won the NCCC and finished third in Class M to conclude a strong indoor season.
