My wife asked me the other day what Putin was doing. I told her he was filling the leadership vacuum in Washington. It’s true. There’s no leader in the nation’s capital. President Obama is a washout on Middle East policy and most everything else in this second term and when he’s not muddling through that, he’s off jetting around the country stuck in campaign mode. Speaker John Boehner is being led by an unruly herd of cats and the Senate is almost ignored because everybody knows that legislation passed by that august body won’t survive a vote in the House. Meanwhile, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer and the middle class is shrinking.
Obama’s second term reminds me of the Jimmy Carter years, when he admitted that he lost it, lost the mojo, the skill to lead and inspire as president. At that time there were popular religious bumper stickers that said, “I Found It.” I did a cartoon of Carter in his car with three bumper stickers: I Lost It, I Found It, I Lost It Again.Copyright © 2015, CT Now
