1990: The Huskies played their first game at Gampel Pavilion on Jan. 31 and beat Georgetown.
1990: Southington's Rob Dibble, son of legendary radio newsman Walt Dibble, was a two-time All-Star for the Cincinnati Reds and was one of the hardest-throwing relief pitchers in baseball. He made his first All-Star Game in 1990. He's also remembered for his temper, on and off the field.
1990: Most entertaining game: On Nov. 23, after Todd Krygier bowled over Andy Moog, Cam Neely clubbed Randy Ladouceur [suspended five games], Chris Nilan cross-checked Pat Verbeek in the face and John Carter slashed Ulf Samuelsson. Mike Milbury began banging on the glass like he was going after coach Rick Ley. Whale scored four unanswered power-play goals to win.
1990: On Sept. 22, the UConn women snapped North Carolina's record win streak of 103 games with a 3-2 victory in Storrs. It was North Carolina's only loss in 205 games.
