For the upcoming release of Disney-Pixar’s “Cars 2,” the racing action will be a little more dimensional in the “Cars 2: The Video Game” for Sony’s Playstation 3. After all, the game will have 3D functionality.

The game has 20 cars that players can use with the spy plotline of the new movie. Along with single-racer mode, the game also will feature combat racing for four players in split screen.

Aside from the 3D features for the PS3 console, the game also will function in good old 2D (kids, ask your parents to explain it) for Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, and Macs and PCs.

It also will play on the new Nintendo 3DS, but it won’t function as a 3D title on that handheld system.

The game comes from Salt Lake City-based Avalanche Software and drops on June 21, just days before the release of the Disney-Pixar flick on the big screens. Avalanche was the developer for last year’s “Toy Story 3” game.

“Cars 2” is a sequel to the 2006 Pixar feature and will be directed by John Lasseter. It stars the voices of Owen Wilson, Michael Caine, Larry the Cable Guy, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin and a host of other actors.
