Two Connecticut chefs have landed on the list of semifinalists for the 2014 James Beard Foundation awards in the Best Chef: Northeast category.

Tyler Anderson of Millwright's in Simsbury and Joel Viehland of Community Table in Washington have made the cut, along with chefs from Boston, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and upstate New York.

The chefs are known for their commitment to local, sustainable fare; they recently partnered for a "kitchen swap" event last fall, bringing their unique styles to each other's restaurants. Viehland has made the semifinals in past years; Anderson received a nod in December for Millwright's carrot terrine, named as one of the Foundation's "favorite dishes and drinks of 2013."

The final Restaurant and Chef nominations will be announced on March 19. For a full list of semifinalists, visit jamesbeard.org.
