Anderson, Miller, Jones, Greenberg, Cavagnaro, Morton, Grant, Lizotte: These names, instantly recognizable to fans of the greater Hartford dining scene, converged upon one kitchen Tuesday to deliver a one-of-a-kind dining experience for charity.
The 8 men put together a seven-course menu for the No Kid Hungry - Share Our Strength fundraiser dinner at Millwright's in Simsbury, with each plate reflecting each chef's individual style. Host chef Tyler Anderson provided the passed hors d'oeuvres, including foie gras bon bons on brown bread with rhubarb butter; beet tartare and tapioca clam "chowder" served on the half-shell. Scott Miller of Max's Oyster Bar followed with fluke crudo, sungold tomatoes, breakfast radish and flowering basil.
Ryan Jones of The Mill @ 2T continued the tomato celebration with fruits from Colgan Farm, puffed potato, pickled celery, bacon and horseradish jam and a savory sungold tomato and basil gelato. Adam Greenberg of Barcelona brought Spanish flair with a seafood paella, and Steve Cavagnaro of Cavey's served a delicate Tuscan kale and green garlic agnolotti with brown butter chive sauce.
Hunter Morton of Max Downtown paired sweet and sour peaches with Marwin Farms duck breast, duck and foie sausage and salted cherry puree, and Billy Grant of Grant's and Bricco plated tender braised beef short rib with corn, squash, summer string beans and horseradish crumbs. Jeff Lizotte of ON20 ended on a sweet note with corn panna cotta, blueberry sherbet and popcorn hush puppies.
One hundred percent of proceeds from Tuesday's dinner were donated to the organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger. With a ticket price of $135 per person, the Aug. 12 event raised more than $8,000, said Anderson.
These chefs - and dozens more greater Hartford restaurants and vendors - will participate in the Taste of the Nation Hartford event Oct. 2 at Marquee Events and Catering, which also benefits the organization. General admission is $85; VIP admission is $150. For more information, visit ce.strength.org/hartford.
