Call it summer in a half-shell. Here are a few slurpable specials at Connecticut restaurants for National Oyster Day. (All promotions are for Sunday, Aug. 5, unless otherwise noted.)
Max Chef to Farm’s Oyster Festival at Simsbury’s Rosedale Farms offers two seatings at 1 and 3 p.m. Tickets are $59 and include food: raw bar items (oysters, clams and shrimp) and specialties like fried oyster po’boys, grilled oysters, oyster stew and Savoy’s clam pizza. Cash bar features local craft beers, specialty cocktails, oyster shooters and Rosedale wines. Kids’ tickets, including a meal, are $19. Lawn chairs and blankets are recommended. Bartaco, with Connecticut restaurants in Stamford, West Hartford and Westport, brings back its special oyster taco through Aug. 10, featuring crispy wild Gulf oysters soaked in buttermilk, dredged in cornmeal and served with tangy oyster sauce and cilantro. Mill Restaurant Group’s restaurants offer several oyster specials, including $1 oysters at Abigail’s Grille & Wine Bar in Simsbury (Duxburys, Patriots and Sweet Petites); $1.50 Wellfleet and Blackberry Point oysters and $8 Chateau de Montfort Vouvray by the glass at Republic at the Linden in Hartford; half-priced oysters and $6 Massaya Blanc by the glass at Republic in Bloomfield and buy one, get one oysters on the half shell and all-day happy hour at Market Grille in Manchester.
Oyster Club, 13 Water St., Mystic, offers $1 Noank oysters from 4 to 6 p.m. in the restaurant bar and from 3 to 6 p.m. upstairs in the Treehouse at Oyster Club dining area. oysterclubct.com.
