Present Company, the new venture by former ON20 chef Jeffrey Lizotte and Grants manager Tom Gale, will officially open Wednesday night in Simsbury’s Tariffville section.
Lizotte and Gale announced in late July that they would open a new restaurant in the former Mill at 2T space at 2 Tunxis Road. The Mill's former owners Ryan and Kelleanne Jones planned a relocation to Charleston, S.C., Kelleanne Jones told The Courant.
Gale, the managing partner, said Present Company will be open for dinner Wednesday through Saturday at first, offering a small, “very focused” menu of five starters ($10 to $15) and five entrees ($22 to $32.) Offerings include appetizers like beet salad, grilled carpaccio of salt cod and peekytoe crab and shrimp with celery root ravioli, and main courses like crispy black sea bass, poached halibut and filet of beef “en croute.”
Present Company will also regularly offer tasting menus, Gale said, and the 49-seat restaurant – with a popular chef’s counter section – will serve craft beer and wine.
The new restaurant is a homecoming for the Simsbury-raised Lizotte, a Cornell graduate whose culinary résumé includes experience at David Bouley's Danube and Eric Ripert's Le Bernardin in New York City, along with Bordeaux's La Tupina and the Michelin-starred La Bastide St. Antoine in Grasse. He spent nearly nine years at Hartford’s ON20, serving as executive chef for the last four.
"When you're a kid … all you can think about is moving out, what's next," Lizotte told The Courant in July. "Coming back home [to Simsbury] and working here was never a solid reality on my horizon. But after I went out there in the world, did my thing in New York and went overseas, I realized how wonderful it is here. Not only to call it home, but to make a living here."
