Two Connecticut Chefs Among Beard Foundation Semifinalists

Millwright's Tyler Anderson a Beard semifinalist for best chef in the Northeast

Two Connecticut chefs, Millwright's Tyler Anderson, and Dan Magill of Arethusa al Tavolo in Bantam, are semifinalists in the 26th annual James Beard Foundation Awards, considered the culinary equivalent of the Oscars. Both are nominees in the Best Chef: Northeast category.

Anderson, owns  Millwright's in Simsbury and has just signed a lease to open a new restaurant in Blue Back Square with Bear's Smokehouse owner Jamie McDonald called The Cook and the Bear. Anderson was also the executive chef at The Copper Beech Inn in Ivoryton.

Magill has been the Arethusa al tavolo in Litchfield County since it  opened its doors in June 2013. The restaurant is next to the Arethusa Dairy store, and boasts that nearly every item on the menu uses some ingredient from the Arethusa farm.

Final nominees will be announced on March 15 during a press conference at the Presidio Officers’ Club in San Francisco. Winners will be announced at the 2016 James Beard Awards Gala at Lyric Opera of Chicago on May 2. Information: jamesbeard.org/awards.
