Tune in tonight: Hardcore Sweet, the Oakville-based bakery known for its unique and creative "classy to crazy" cupcakes, cakes and other sweet treats, returns to TV for a competition appearance on the Cooking Channel's "Sugar Showdown." The episode airs at 10 p.m.
This is the latest TV spot for Hardcore Sweet's husband-and-wife owners Jeremy and Nicole Braddock, who won Food Network's "Cupcake Wars" in 2013. The victory sent them to the grand opening of guest judge Rob Zombie's monthlong haunted music attraction, "Great American Nightmare."
The Cooking Channel website describes "Sugar Showdown" as "a fun and intense competition series that celebrates all things sweet and delicious," where three expert bakers make desserts using one mystery ingredient in the first round. After an elimination, the finalists "must make creations based on a theme," and the winner earns a $10,000 prize.
The Braddocks hinted they'd be making pies on the episode - a confection they don't typically handle. "Never have I made pie crust before, but now I can make it in my sleep," Jeremy Braddock said in a press release.
Hardcore Sweet's flagship location is at 20 Main St. in the Oakville section of Watertown, and they operate another within the Shoppes at Buckland Hills mall in Manchester. hardcoresweetcupcakes.com.
