In response to Sunday's mass shooting at Orlando's Pulse nightclub, Unionville's Cure Restaurant will host an all-day fundraiser, "More Love Less Hate," Wednesday. The restaurant will donate 10 percent of the day’s sales and a portion of tips to support shooting victims and their families.
The cause is personal for bar manager Nikki Simches, who spent two years working in Orlando not far from Pulse and said friends of hers had lost friends in the attack. "It's super-sensitive and I couldn't do nothing," she said. "I almost feel helpless being in Connecticut.”
Cure is taking reservations for the dining room Wednesday and will also offer a donation bucket for anyone who may want to stop in and give. Simches said money would be donated to the official Pulse Victims Fund via GoFundMe, which has raised more than $1.5 million as of Monday morning.
"It’s a day for people to just get along and spend time with people they love, and kind of appreciate life," she said.
