Thrillist's roundup honors the outpost in the nation's capital, which debuted Nov. 3. "If you're a CT-based burger spot, and you plan to open your first non-New England location, you better pay homage to the place from which you came by adding Maine lobster, smoked Gouda, caramelized onion, and a tomato-corn spread," editors noted. "And also maybe by calling it the New Englander or whatever."
The "surf"-topped burger has been a staple of the Plan B menu since the inaugural location opened in West Hartford in 2006. Since then, the Locals 8 Restaurant Group has brought Plan Bs to Simsbury, Glastonbury, Milford, Stamford and Springfield, Mass.
Plan B Burger Bar is one of three Connecticut-based restaurant groups to expand beyond New England in the past few years. The Barteca Restaurant Group has opened Barcelona Wine Bar and Bartaco locations in Atlanta, and a Barcelona Wine Bar opened in D.C. in the fall of 2013. A Bartaco and another Barcelona are also planned for Reston, Va. Max Restaurant Group also opened The Cooper, described as a "farm to table modern American grill," in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. May 19.
