A multiple sclerosis patient at a Fort Lauderdale halfway house was killed Monday by another resident, police said.
Alicia Jahalal, 37, was in a Broward County jail Tuesday, facing a murder charge.
She and Janice D'Elia were both residents for just a month at Eagle's Cove Villa, a halfway house at 3221 Glendale Blvd., said Bonnie Henley, a corporate officer of the business.
A resident told police he saw Jahalal sitting on top of D'Elia, who used a wheelchair but was on the floor, and Jahalal had her hands around D'Elia's throat, a complaint affidavit states.
A police officer found D'Elia in a pool of blood. She was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where she died, police said. A large steak knife with blood on it was found inside a washing machine, the affidavit says.
The Broward medical examiner ruled that D'Elia died from multiple stab wounds, Det. DeAnna Greenlaw said.
