Birds of The Outback land for a return visit to Mystic Aquarium May 17, a hands-on exhibit of more than 500 free-flying birds. The special guest star this year is the Kookaburra.
This Australian laughing bird gets its name from the manic laughter-like calls that echoes human laughter. The exhibit will also feature Ricky, an Eclectus parrot, Regent parrots, Superb parrots and budgies. Also new this year are two cockatiels, also known as Shoulder Birds. These birds are about 14-inches tall and are gray with bright yellow heads and orange cheeks. They will roam the grounds with their trainers to interact with visitors, who can also buy feeding sticks to give to the birds.
Admission to the aquarium is $29.95 for adults; $25.95 for youths; ages 3 to 12, $21.95. Check with your local library for free passes. Parking is free. Open daily. Information: 860-572-5955 and www.mysticaquarium.org.
