When I was little, my sisters and I would team up with my cousins to ask/badger our parents to sleepover each others houses. We didn't live that far from each other, but didn't see each other as much as we'd all have liked. "Please mom, we'll be good," we'd say, basically whining until every now and then we'd get our way! At the time it was my two sisters Amy and Elizabeth and my cousins Kim and Brian because my brother wasn't born yet. We had dance parties, played games, and all slept in sleeping bags next to each other on the floor. It was a lot of fun!
Now, here we are, a few years later, or that's what it seems like, and history is repeating itself, in the best of ways. My daughter Brianna and her cousin Riley are a handful of sleepovers in. They're four years apart, like some of my cousins and I were, but it doesn't matter. They beg my sister Amy and I for them. This weekend, we had back to back ones. Because we live a little farther away than me and my cousins did when we were little, we try and pick a meeting place or incorporate a family function into the mix to cut down on the driving. My sister took the girls the first night, then we swapped. They got to play at KidCity in Middletown, went swimming, watched "Frozen" for the millionith time, and just played together. Besides the two of them having so much fun, it gives mom and dad a break too!
I think next time my husband and I are ready to take them up on their offer to have Addison sleepover as well!
How old were your kids when they had their first sleepover?
