Is Breastfeeding Best?

For the record, I breast fed both of my daughters.

I wanted to before they were born. I'm not going to lie and say I didn't feel a little pressure from society, or maybe other mothers or even my doctor for that matter, because who knows exactly where it comes from. But I also really wanted to for several reasons, including the health benefits and the bonding experience. And while I was able to breast feed both of my girls, with minimal complications, I realize that's not always the case. In fact, I have several friends who have desperately wanted to breast feed, but couldn't for whatever reason.  I also have friends who didn't want to breast feed at all. It's such a personal choice and I honestly support whatever that decision is. Who am I to tell you what to do with your body?

But, for a while now, women everywhere have heard "breast is best." Some may have even breast fed their children solely because that's what they were told.  But a New York Times article I came across questioned that theory, citing a new Ohio State University Study.

While the research wouldn't have changed my decision to breast feed, the one thing I can guarantee, is this debate will continue and I just hope this article stimulates a conversation rather than anymore judging!
