Traditionally, expectant moms get a baby shower for their first child and possibly a sprinkle for their second or third.
What I hadn't heard of, ok maybe it was just me, was a freezer party for baby number two. The idea is to stuff the freezer for the family expecting another child with enough food to get them through those first couple of weeks with a newborn. Each guest brings one meal with instructions on how to reheat it, and dinner is ready! My family and friends threw one for me when I was pregnant with my second child. They didn't tell me about it, they just told me where and when to show up and told me it was just a girls thing.
I honestly thought it was the BEST idea ever invented! Here's the thing, I don't love to cook, I like it sometimes, but generally do it out of necessity, because my family and I need to eat! On top of it, the thought of cooking while being exhausted with a newborn and a toddler makes my head hurt. I probably would have just lived on peanut butter and jelly rather than actually venturing into the kitchen.
So, I love that the tradition is continuing in our family. This time though, I'm the one who needs to cook something. I wanted to come up with something that would freeze well and is simple, because, well, let's face it, with two children to take care of, plus writing and a general lack of ability in the kitchen, I could use all the help I can get. So, I enjoyed these step by step suggestions, that included all kinds of ideas!
So, if you're looking for suggestions for moms to be, the second or third time around, cook for them! Forget the cute outfit the baby will only wear once! (I'm sure they'd also love for you to stay so they get a shower in too!)
