'Cut-A-Thon' to Benefit Southington Toddler with Blood Disease

Need a haircut?  Get one Sunday for a good cause.

Serenity Salon and Day Spa in Wallingford is hosting a benefit cut-a-thon for Southington toddler, Daniela Ciriello, on March 30th from 10am to 3pm.

The 20 month old has Beta thalassemia, an inherited, chronic blood disease.  Her bone marrow does not produce enough healthy red blood cells, requiring constant transfusions.

"We're trying to raise awareness about what it is and how important it is to be a blood donor," says Daniela's mom, Nicole.  The little girl needs a very expensive, daily medicine to counteract the affects of the transfusions on her organs.  People in the community began to hear Daniela's story and the financial toll her sickness was taking on the family.  When the cut-a-thon was scheduled, Nicole was extremely touched.  "People have been amazing.  I am so humbled by what they are doing for us," she says.  "I am so happy that there are so many great people in the world.  It means so much to us."

The salon's goal is to raise $2000 on Sunday, donating 100% of the proceeds to the Ciriello family, to help offset cost of treatments.
