Royal wedding doughnut debuts

Tribune reporter

Forget the two wedding cakes, Prince William and Kate Middleton. You know you've really arrived on the world stage when Dunkin' Donuts introduces a "Royal Wedding Donut" in honor of your nuptials.

Said doughnut is described by Massachussetts-based Dunkin' Brands as "a heart shaped donut filled with jelly and topped with vanilla icing and a chocolate drizzle." This special doughnut will be offered between April 24 and the wedding day, April 29, at participating Dunkin' Donuts stores. It will have a suggested retail price of 89 cents.

Why this sort of doughnut? "The heart signifies the love between Prince William and Catherine, and the donut is filled with jelly to represent how their lives are to be ever-filled with happiness," a company press release explains. "The white frosting is reminiscent of the traditional white wedding gown, and the chocolate drizzle is symbolic of William’s love for chocolate."

Okay, then. I haven't tried the celebratory doughnut yet but it does look rather pretty.

Speaking of William's love for chocolate, I have dug into a chocolate cake believed to be similar to one of the two wedding cakes the royal couple will enjoy. Here's the recipe for this "right royal  cake."
