Bears On A Journey

Fran Schoell, of Portland, and her daughter, Cheryl Tuttle, started Bears on a Journey at the Portland Senior Center fifteen years ago with volunteers making hand-crafted fleece teddy bears to donate to cancer patients for comfort while undergoing treatment. Now Schoell, 80, is in hospice after being diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in September. Last week, Schoell asked her friends from the program to bring 53 bears to pass out at hospice as one more act of giving.
