This year, there are more divas in the running for best actress at the Daytime Emmys than ever. That's because a new rule permits each of the nine soap operas to advance up to three contenders -- instead of the usual two -- to the pre-noms list. At that point all finalists are judged by fellow actors based upon their selection of two sample episodes from the past TV season.
Which five deserve to be the nominees who'll be announced on April 30? And which one should win on June 20? Quite a few soap icons on this list are long overdue to prevail, including Deidre Hall ("Days of Our Lives"); Jeanne Cooper ("Young and the Restless"); Katherine Kelly Lang ("Bold and the Beautiful"); and Melody Thomas Scott ("Young and the Restless"). One icon, who finally won after 19 losses, Susan Lucci ("All My Children") is back in the running now even though her current candidacy is dubious -- in the lead race anyway.
That's the opinion of our forums moderator Matthew "Boidiva2" Cormier, who is one of many posters who accepted our invitation to size up the gals in contention.
