The troubled actress will play Elizabeth Taylor in a Lifetime biopic to be titled "Liz & Dick," the network announced Monday.
"I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor. She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well," Lohan said in a press release. "I am very honored to have been asked to play this role."
The movie, which will begin filming in June in LA, recounts Taylor's roller coaster romance with Richard Burton and is the latest move by the 25-year-old Lohan to bounce back from five years of legal troubles that seem to have ended last month. She hosted "Saturday Night Live" and will guest star on "Glee" in May.
"We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor," said Rob Sharenow, executive vice president of programming at Lifetime Networks. "She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon."
Burton's role has yet to be cast, a Lifetime rep said today. It have been rumored for months the Lohan would play Taylor.
Can't wait to see Lilo painted up like an Egyptian queen; Taylor and Burton first flirted on the set of "Cleopatra," married, divorced, remarried and divorced again.
