Mandela memorial sign-language interpreter a fake?

Deaf people around the world expressed outrage over the unrecognizable and incoherent gestures given by a South African sign-language interpreter during Nelson Mandela's public memorial service on Dec. 10. Thamsanqa Jantjie denied he's a fake, instead claiming he suffered a schizophrenic episode during the event. "There was nothing I could do. I was alone in a very dangerous situation. I tried to control myself and not show the world what was going on. I am very sorry. It's the situation I found myself in," he told Johannesburg's Star. Alexander Joe/AFP/Getty Images
