Fox has picked up five guy-centric comedies, including the much-anticipated Andy Samberg-Andre Braugher detective vehicle "Brooklyn Nine Nine."
The series orders include Seth MacFarlane's live-action entry "Dads," which already had a six-episode commitment that has now been bumped up to 13 segs. The 20th Century Fox TV series revolves around two best friends, played by Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi, whose lives change when their fathers move in with them.
"Enlisted," also from 20th TV, centers on three brothers who live on an Army base. "Surviving Jack," (fka "I Suck at Girls") is a father-son buddy vehicle starring Christopher Meloni.
"Us and Them," from Sony Pictures TV and BBC Worldwide Prods., is the only detour from the male-focus. It's a wrong rom-com remake of the BBC2 series "Gavin and Stacey" starring Jason Ritter and Alexis Bledel.
"Brooklyn" has been a high-profile project since it came together last year from "Parks and Recreation" scribes Michael Schur and Dan Goor. The pickup is significant for producer Universal TV, which has sought to broaden its horizons beyond producing for NBCU nets. Universal TV is also the home of Fox's "The Mindy Project," which has been renewed for a soph sesh.
The male focus is a departure from the past two seasons, when Fox's comedy development leaned toward the distaff side.
Here are the detailed descriptions:
