Food on a stick offers a number of culinary advantages. You don’t need utensils. There’s little to no cleanup (other than tossing out the stick). It’s socially acceptable to walk around with your food, and if you’re a guy, you feel tough, manly, masculine, vaguely caveman-ish (alternately, ladies might feel more delicate and ladylike, especially if the pinky finger points up while you eat). It’s perfect for dipping into sauces, as long as you don’t double-dip. If you can get bacon on there somehow (see the video at the bottom of the story), I believe, you’ll have achieved foodie nirvana.

1) Satay

What it is: a staple of Indonesian, Malaysian and Thai cuisine, satay is grilled meat (pork, beef, fish, chicken, tofu: any meat will do) that’s been marinated and skewered with bamboo sticks, served with a spicy peanut sauce (or what-have-you).

2) Yakitori

What it is: usually (but not always) consisting of skewered grilled chicken, this is a common type of Japanese street food that’s also referred to as “kushiyaki.” Choose between having it cooked with salt or with a sweet sauce with mirin, sake and soy sauce.
