Where to get it: Wood-n-Tap, 1274 Farmington Ave., Farmington, (860) 773-6736, Open daily at 11:30 a.m. Serving lunch, dinner and late-night menu 7 days a week. Call-ahead seating available.
Contents: blended Paullini Lemoncello, Three Olives Pomegranate Vodka, house-made sour mix and a splash of Brut Champagne, shaken with ice until chilled.
Description: Orange-red in color from the pomegranate vodka and served in a martini glass with a lemon garnish, this one’s got a lightly carbonated, sweet, fruity, crisp and clean taste, added citrus and sour notes (from the lemon garnish and sour mix), light foam around the rim and an appropriately bracing aftertaste (subsequent sips not as strong). It’s the perfect pre-dinner cocktail, one that loosens the tongue (but not too much), goes down smooth and disappears before you know it.
Sampled: last Wednesday night before an acoustic trio gig (they have live music every Wednesday). Bar was active with regulars but not overcrowded. Most of the restaurant activity shifts to the back space after conventional dinner hours. Ample booths and tables; helpful, friendly staff.
Also try: a large selection of house martinis (cherry cheesecake, orange cream, peach passion, espresso and apple), specialty cocktails (mojito, red sangria, hard lemonade, flavored margaritas and Kitty O’Shea’s Irish coffee), wines and beer (on tap or cans and bottles).
