Do you like to eat food while supporting literacy programs? And did you know that Dr. Seuss' birthday is coming up in early March? In honor of what would have been his 108th birthday this year, celebrate in style by chowing down on some green eggs and ham (and green pancakes, too!) at the Irish American Community Center in East Haven. Along with the literary-inspired eats, you'll also enjoy kids' games, story time, face painting and other stuff for the kids. Admission is $9 for adults and $6 for kids, but if you bring a new or gently used book for donation to New Haven Reads, they'll knock $1 off the ticket price. Proceeds from this event will benefit the 2012 Greater New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade, to boot.
Green Eggs and Ham Family Breakfast, Jan. 21, 9 a.m.-noon, Irish American Community Center, 9 Venice Place, East Haven, (203) 469-3080, stpatricksdayparade.org. E-mail email@example.com for tickets.
