CraftBeer.com asked, and readers answered. Eastern Connecticut's Willimantic Brewing Company has made it to the website's search for "Great American Beer Bars," nominated as one of the top beer-centric establishments in the Northeast region.
"Willibrew" is the only Connecticut nominee, joining nine other beer bars and brew pubs from New England, New York state, Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic states in its category. The top three craft beer establishments from each region will be recognized, as well as the top three national winners, according to the website. Last year, after nearly 30,000 votes were cast in the contest, Willimantic Brewing ended up in third place in the Northeast division.
The brew pub responded excitedly via its Facebook page. "We're so excited to be included in CraftBeer.com's search for the Great American Beer Bar. We're even more honored to be the only representation from CT...A vote for Willibrew is a vote for CT Craft Beer!"
Voting at CraftBeer.com ends at 11:59 p.m. MT on Friday, Aug. 30.
Willimantic Brewing Company originally began as Main Street Cafe in 1991, eventually moving operations to its current home in the town's old post office building. The pub features rotating selections of its own handcrafted beers, along with "guest beers" from other local, regional and national breweries. 967 Main Street, 860-423-6777, willimanticbrewingcompany.com.
