New York-based Virgil's Real BBQ will open at Mohegan Sun this spring, the casino announced today in a press release. This will be the third location for the Southern-style barbecue joint, with locations in Manhattan and the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas.
The restaurant, with seating for 225 people, will open on the upper level of The Shops concourse near The Lansdowne Irish Pub & Music House.
The menu features plenty of meat: Memphis-style pork spare ribs, chicken fried steak, barbecued and fried chicken, brisket and steak, along with seafood, sandwiches and salads. Scratch-made sides like biscuits, cornbread, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, grits and baked beans are available on their own or with Virgil's specialty combination platters. Desserts are Southern-decadent as well, with banana pudding and Key lime pie among the choices.
Virgil's at Mohegan Sun will offer 16 beers on tap, including a proprietary lager made for the restaurant by Magic Hat Brewery. These complement another 75 beers by the bottle.
