Shake Shack is set to open its second Connecticut restaurant in New Haven Thursday, at 986 Chapel Street. The Elm City store, centrally located near the New Haven Green and Yale's Old Campus, joins the Westport location at 1849 Boston Post Road.
The cult-favorite chain, brainchild of New York restaurateur Danny Meyer, is known for its roadside-burger-stand vibe, with burgers, hot dogs, fries, frozen custard and "concretes": custard blended with toppings and mix-ins.
In keeping with Shake Shack tradition, the New Haven menu's "Concretes" are tailored to the region, with "Boola Boola Blue" (vanilla custard, blueberry jam, lemon pie); "Skull & Cones" (chocolate and vanilla custard, shattered sugar cone, peanut butter sauce, chocolate truffle cookie dough) and "Elm City Coffee Break" (vanilla custard, coffee cake, marshmallow sauce, shortbread cookies, caramelized pecans.)
Shake Shack will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Information: 203-747-8483, shakeshack.com
