Plan B Burger Bar's recent expansion has caught the eye of Inc. Magazine once again. The publication has honored the company's hiring efforts with an inaugural Hire Power award, which salutes American job creators.
The better-burger chain, with six locations in Connecticut and Massachusetts, is #98 on the list of 100 honorees, and #9 among other food and beverage companies (joining national brands Chobani and Smashburger.) It's also the only winner from the state of Connecticut.
Owners Allie Gamble and Shawn Skehan opened locations in Stamford and Springfield, Mass. this year. In the publication's company profile, Plan B Burger Bar is listed as having 380 employees, 215 of which were added in the past three years. The company's three-year growth rate is listed at 1,002 percent, with revenue of $19.1 million in 2011.
"We're so proud that our growth as a company enables us to hire so many passionate and dedicated employees," Gamble said in a news release. "With each new location that we open, we can tap into the talent pool in that region."
"We've always said that we couldn't expand at this pace without our loyal team of staff members. And it’s not just something that we say...it's true," Skehan said. "Our plan for success is based on surrounding ourselves with awesome people, plus good booze and great burgers."
Plan B Burger Bar was also named one of the fastest-growing private companies in the country on the magazine's annual 500|5000 List in 2010, 2011, and 2012.
Gamble and Skehan are the co-founders of Locals 8 Restaurant Group, parent company of Plan B Burger Bar in Glastonbury, Milford, Simsbury, Springfield, Stamford and West Hartford. Locals 8 also owns and operates The Half Door and Tisane Euro-Asian Cafe in Hartford.
