As the United States' top gymnasts head to Hartford this week for the P&G Championships, the city's restaurants are preparing for the crowds to follow.
Six Hartford eateries are creating special menu items as part of the Capital City's Taste of the Championships. From Aug. 15 to Aug 17, Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra and U.S. gymnastics coach Bela Karolyi will review and taste the signature dishes, which are also being analyzed by a nutritionist with USA Gymnastics' partner St. Vincent Sports Performance to determine the healthiest dish. Participating restaurants are Agave Grill, City Steam Brewery Cafe, DISH Bar & Grill, Feng Asian Bistro, Max Downtown and Salute.
Also, as part of the "Let's Eat" network, 10 Hartford restaurants are offering a 20 percent discount to ticket and credential holders, as well as those with a USA Gymnastics Congress credential. Participating restaurants include Black Bear Saloon; Burger Baby; Carbone's Ristorante; DISH Bar & Grill; Front Street Bistro; Hot Tomato's; Peppercorn's Grill; Salute Restaurant; The Russian Lady and The Tavern Downtown.
The championships will be held at the XL Center Aug. 15 through 18, featuring Olympic medalists McKayla Maroney (of "not impressed" meme fame,) Kyla Ross, Danell Leyva and returning champion John Orozco. For more information or to buy tickets, visit xlcenter.com.
