Taqueria Tavern in West Hartford hosts Onyx Moonshine's second annual Hot Wing Eating Contest Saturday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. Contestants will compete in competitions to determine who can eat the hottest wing and the most amount of wings, respectively.
Tavern owner Dave Blanck said this year's hottest wing sauce rates nearly 2 million on the Scoville scale, a measurement of pepper spice. The sauces are crafted with Onyx Moonshine in the recipe. Onyx drink specials will be available all night long, and the distillery debuts its just-released Apple Honey seasonal moonshine, made with Connecticut Honeycrisp apples.
Half of the $10 fee for wing-contest participants will be donated to the ALS Foundation, on behalf of Daniel D. Gardner. The winners will receive an Onyx Moonshine prize pack and a gift card for dinner to Taqueria Tavern. The event is open to the public and is free for non-participants and spectators.
Taqueria Tavern is at 140 Park Road in West Hartford. 860-899-1981, taqueriatavern.com.
