Local coffeehouse La Paloma Sabanera, a fixture in Hartford's Frog Hollow neighborhood, has announced it will close its doors June 27.
Owner Virginia Iacobucci announced the closure on the business's Facebook page Sunday.
"I have always felt La Paloma was more than just a coffee house, it stood for something important in a neighborhood that many had long given up on," she wrote. "It represented what we love about living in Hartford and all the best about the people living here."
The Capitol Avenue coffeehouse has been a popular gathering space for live music and other creative performances.
In May, Iacobucci told The Courant that CTfastrak busway construction in the city, which closed down Flower Street, had caused a decline in business. Two weeks later, a state Department of Transportation hearing officer ruled that busway engineers could not close off part of Flower Street to pedestrian traffic, a decision Iacobucci and other local business owners praised.
On Facebook, she wrote that La Paloma's operations would "be business as usual," until the 27th, although the coffeehouse will stop issuing gift certificates immediately and will no longer issue new coffee cards after June 15.
La Paloma Sabanera is at 405 Capitol Avenue in Hartford. 860-548-1670, lapalomacoffeehouse.com.
