Yes, it's true - Carmen Anthony Vacalebre plans to close his Avon fishhouse this weekend, with plans to sell the property to the owners of the Grist Mill in Farmington.
The restaurant at 51 East Main Street will hold its last service Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. Guests that day will receive a $25 gift card (with restrictions) valid at the restaurant group's other eateries in New Haven, Waterbury, Woodbury and Wethersfield. All outstanding gift cards will be usable in the remaining locations.
"This recession has affected us, as it has every other business and unfortunately, in this down economy, this location just couldn’t keep pace with our other locations," Vacalebre said in a statement. "I want to thank our loyal Avon guests and friends personally for their patronage."
Vacalebre is selling the restaurant to Grist Mill owner Anthony Giraulo, who will relocate the Grist Mill from its current address at 44 Mill Lane in Farmington. He told The Courant that the Avon restaurant suffered in 2011 when the Farmington Valley was hit by Tropical Storm Irene and the October snowstorm.
