Thomas Horn, the 13-year-old star of "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close," was a wild card for the male lead award. His performance as a young boy searching for clues about his father (Tom Hanks) who perished in the Sept. 11 attacks was his big-screen debut. Horn was discovered after winning the teen tournament on "Jeopardy." The film may have hurt its own chances at earning some Screen Actors Guild nominations by cutting it too close to voting deadlines.
