Zooey Deschanel received a formal apology from the closed-captioning company that misidentified the "New Girl" star as a suspect in the April 15 Boston Marathon bombing.
Part of the erroneous caption read "marathon bombing. He is 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel" and appeared adjacent to a photo of 19-year-old college student Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, according to a photo Deschanel posted on Twitter. Tsarnaev was later arrested.
"Whoa! Epic closed captioning FAIL!" the actress tweeted with an image of the blunder, which she was alerted to via "The Soup" host Joel McHale and a follower over the weekend.
(Cue her big blue eyes widening even further at this absurd case of mistaken identity.)
Deschanel is said to have received the apology from Caption Solutions president Kala J. Patterson, the Associated Press reported.
In a statement, Patterson insisted the company "sincerely apologizes for this error."
So was it the Z or the D that tripped them up?
