Restaurants gear up for Halloween with cocktail specials, costume parties

Frontier. Secret Speakeasy event will take place Wednesday. Green City Market. The market's second annual Halloween Harvest Ball fundraiser will take place 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Ravenswood Event Center (4011 N. Ravenswood Ave.). The event will be a costume party featuring food from such chefs as Jennifer Jones (Topolobampo), John Manion (La Sirena Clandestina), Mike and Pat Sheerin (Trenchermen), Mark Steuer (The Bedford, Carriage House), Paul Virant (Perennial Virant, Vie) and Jared Wentworth (Longman & Eagle). Sommelier Jason Wagner (RM Champagne, Nellcote) Jared Rouben (Goose Island Brewpubs) and Jordan Johnston (Frontera Grill) will handle the libations. Tickets, $75, available at greencitymarket.org.
Kit Kat Lounge and Supper Club. Bringing a costume to Kit Kat seems redundant, but guests on Saturday are encouraged to dress up for the club's "Once Upon a Time" fairy tale character theme, and on Halloween itself the theme will be "Dead Presidents." You're free to break with the theme, of course, and the prize for best costume is $300 ($250 gift basket to the runner-up). Special Halloween cocktails, $13.50 Saturday but half-price Sunday through Halloween, include the Hpno-Haunt (garnished with a ghost Peep) and the Black Widow (garnished with a toy spider). 3700 N. Nia. The Mediterranean restaurant is throwing a Halloween party Friday through Wednesday.
