Lyman Book-Themed Sunflower Maze Open Most Of August

Get lost among 350,000 red and yellow sunflowers in the maze at Lyman Orchards, which opens this year on Saturday, Aug. 2.

This year's maze is cut into the shape of a bookworm, and the facts and clues within the towering flowers will be book-related. Lyman is partnering up with several local libraries to organize story times and author meet-and-greets. The Orchards will also be partnering with Read to Grow, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting early literacy, to organize a book drive that will run the entire time the maze is open. Guest will receive $1 off admission for donating a new or gently used book.

The maze will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting, until Sunday, Aug. 24. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 4 to 12; free for kids under 3. Last entrance to maze is at 4:30 p.m. ($1 from each ticket will be donated to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center's Pediatric Cancer Unit).

Saturday is also CPTV Kids Day, when PBS's new star Daniel Tiger will make appearances throughout the day beginning at 10 a.m. Information: 860-349-1793 and www.lymanorchards.com.
