Xianni Santiago, 21 year-old resident of Hartford, was walking in the vicinity of Church and Main Streets when she passed through the CTNow radar. We caught up with her in front of Hartford Stage and asked her about her jacket. Topping a Wal-mart T-shirt and plaid lumberjack shirt from J.C. Penney, the seasoned bull-hide was clearly decades old, an authentic bomber jacket from the Air Force.

X: This jacket was given to me by my mother. She bought it used here in Hartford back in the '80s, her first major clothing purchase.

CTNow: Do you have any veterans in your family?

X: My uncle, Kevin Brody. This year, he just got out of the army.

CTNow: So what do you want to say to all of the troops serving out there?

X: Please, please come back home!

CTNow: What — besides your "look" — provides you an outlet for self-expression?

X: I was in a couple of slam poetry competitions, but right now my thing is spray-painting my bedroom walls.
