Wethersfield native Nicole Carbone took her eye for fashion a step further than most fashionistas. She and business partner Elora Joshi combined their eye for fashion into Stil., an online clothing collection (stil-la.com) based in Los Angeles. The two met while they worked as web merchandisers for Forever 21, and the experience inspired them to create their own looks.

Nicole: Working in fashion ... we see so many clothes every day, looking at hundreds of pieces every day and you're like, that's so cute, but … I wish it did this or I wish it was this color. That's sort of where our design comes into play. It's nothing totally off the wall.

CTNow: What inspires your designs?

Nicole: To be honest, it's what we want to wear. We're trying to cater to the girl who cares about what she wears and wants to wear it multiple ways. She's gonna love the dress so much that she'll want to wear it dressed up, dressed down … as opposed to someone who goes out and buys something for every occasion.

CTNow: What are you wearing today?

Nicole: This is one of our pieces, it's a duster. We call it "the jacket" This is one of my favorites because you can throw it on literally anything. I've worn it over jeans, over a dress. Today I'm wearing it with a T-shirt and a leather miniskirt and sneakers. That's sort of how all of our clothes are.

The best style flows from the boutique to the street. You’ve seen them, people who turn heads, who cook up their own style. CTNow has stopped them while we’re out and about on the Connecticut streets and asked them, how do you do it?
