Belden Island In Branford Setting For Reality Show 'Love Prison'

A reality show slated to be shown on the A&E network starting in August is being filmed now on Belden Island, one of the Thimble Islands in Branford, according to WNPR.

The show, "Love Prison," places two online sweethearts on an island together for a week to see if they are compatible in person.

Dick Howd, a fisherman in the area, told WNPR that local boat captains signed nondisclosure agreements to not talk about what was going on on the island, but he told his own observations:

""I was in my boat the other day going by Belden's Island, and I noticed a flag flying on a pole that said 'Love Prison.' So I went home and I Googled 'Love Prison' to see what was going on out there," Howd told NPR.

The entertainment industry news site thewrap.com describes the show as: "Love Prison" (working title), billed as a 'unique social experiment,' will unite couples in online relationships who haven't met yet and put them in "love prison" — aka, a camera-rigged cabin on a remote island — to capture their blossoming relationship and discover if it can withstand the pressure of face-to-face contact."

The only home on the island, however, is more than a cabin. It is a mansion currently on the market for $3.95 million, WNPR reports.

Howd told WNPR that privacy screens, huge generators and round-the-clock security have appeared on Belden Island, one of the 300 Thimble Islands.
