Get out and get festive: Spring and summer festivals in Hampton Roads


When: Thursday-Sunday, June 20-23. 7-10 p.m. Thursday; noon-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday; noon-6 p.m. Sunday.

Where: Town Point Park, downtown Norfolk

Details: Norfolk's annual "second line" with New Orleans' spirit and culture takes place along the Norfolk waterfront. The festival seeks to recreate the best of Louisiana. Two stages featuring national recording artists provide musical entertainment for the weekend. Performers include North Mississippi Allstars, Terrance Simien, Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas and the Rebirth Brass Band. Arts and crafts and authentic food will also be part of the fun.

Admission: Thursday and early Friday admission is free, but Friday night through Sunday requires paid admission. A three-day ticket is $20. Single day admission is $10.



When: Friday-Sunday, June 28-30. 7:30 p.m. Friday; 7 p.m. Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday.

Where: Hampton Coliseum

Details: Friday's show features Gladys Knight and The O'Jays, KEM and Leela James. Saturday's edition will include Heads of State featuring Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant as well as Fantasia, George Benson and local favorites Forte Jazz Band featuring Brian Pinner. On Sunday, the festival concludes with sets from Jill Scott, and the trio of Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank as well as a jazzy supergroup made up of Bob James, David Sanborn, Steve Gadd and James Genus. Hometown performer Karla Crump will round out that bill.

Admission: $58.50 per seat, per day from the Coliseum box office and Ticketmaster.

Details: The Summer BrewFest, sponsored by AT&T, will help folks end the work week with an extended happy hour and live music performed by Major and the Monbacks. Sample a variety of summer beers from local, regional, national and international brewers.

Admission: Free, but beer sampling tickets will be on sale.
