From bad vodka choices to the date from hell, Ryan has seen it all.
Q: Tell me about your garnishes? What is your philosophy?
A: We take our time with our drinks. We make sure we are fully prepped and we take pride in our garnishes. We garnish with fresh fruit, berries, chocolate syrup and whipped cream. We make a pistachio martini, which is not even on the menu. But when people see it, everyone orders it. I don't mind grinding up pistachios for a drink garnish. Presentation is just as important as taste.
Q: Sexiest cocktail?
A: Women love chocolate so I would say our chocolate martini with Godiva vodka and a strawberry on top. I would also recommend J Lohr cabernet because it is a very sexy wine. Our cocktails and wine reflect the décor of the restaurant and bar, which is very elegant.
Q: What's the worst date you've witnessed?
A: A young couple came in and it was the woman's birthday so the man kept telling her order whatever you want and don't worry about it. She orders a cocktail, an appetizer, a salad, a glass of wine, an entrée and dessert. He indulged just as much. When I gave him the check, he refused to pay it. He made her pay for it. She was ready to break down. Her voice was shaky. It was just awful to watch.
Q: Are there cocktail trends you hate?
I don't understand the whole candy-infused vodka thing. I see bars taking Starburst or Skittles and soaking them in cheap vodka for days. There are so many flavors of vodkas and rums that taste great. Plus you avoid the sugar and calories. Skinny Girl has come out with flavored vodka, which is not bad and low in calories.
