Oh, that J.K. Rowling—what a tease! This week the “Harry Potter” author revealed pottermore.com, a mysterious new website that has further confused her fans already emotional over the fact that they’re less than one month away from the last Potter movie. There’s nothing on Pottermore but for Rowling’s signature, two owls and the words “coming soon.” Clicking on one of the owls leads you to a YouTube clock (with more owls) counting down “until J.K. Rowling’s announcement” at midnight Thursday. We’ve got only one clue about what the site will be—Scholastic told ew.com that it’s not a launchpad for a new book—so here are a few of our guesses/dreams. ARIEL@TRIBUNE.COM | @MISSARIEL
“Angry Elves”
Though Rowling doesn’t need the money, she’s capitalizing on the “Angry Birds” trend with this online game about maligned house-elves (led by Kreacher) launching balled-up socks at their much-hated masters.
“Hedwig and the Angry Filch”
A prequel to the book series, this flamboyant Web musical features Harry’s beloved owl terrorizing the Hogwarts groundskeeper. This will prove unsuccessful since no one really wants to listen to two hours of owl hooting.
Potter Puppet Pals: Live!
“The Mysterious Ticking Noise” alone has more than 100 million views on YouTube, so it’s only the next step that Rowling buys these Web videos out and gets the real Potter actors to remake them. That nude Dumbledore is going to be awkward.
Potter Barn
This new online store for home furnishings is where you can buy your very own Vanishing Cabinet or Gryffindor-tinted accent pillows. They’ll look lovely in your cupboard under the stairs.
Lego Harry Potter Land
Sure, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a hit at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. But that’s based on human Harry Potter and unfairly ignores Lego Harry Potter’s strange dominance in playsets and video games. Maybe Rowling will announce a theme park that combines the bests parts of Legoland and the Wizarding World.
